THE SIBERIAN CRANE
This majestic creature is just one of the many amazing species living in the Siberian Tundra! With a beak shaped perfectly for eating shallow-rooted plants and thick white feathers, it's very well adapted to the harsh Siberian environment. Unfortunately, the Siberian Crane is the third most endangered crane in the entire world. This is mostly due to the loss and destruction of their habitat. One of the major examples of this is the recently constructed Three Gorges Dam, which is disturbing the normal flow of the Yangtze River. The war in Afghanistan is thought to be a factor, as well, since the crane migrate to that area. Their current status is critically endangered, as there are barely 3,200
left in the world. So if you happen to be fortunate enough to come across a Siberian Crane during your visit, it would do you well to just sit back, relax, and observe; it might be quite some time before you
ever see one again!
